NEW INSTRUCTIONS FOR REQUESTING SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS - Students will not be able to submit scholarship application requests through the web tool for this school year.  On Friday, January 13th every senior was given a paper copy of the list of scholarships and was instructed to return the completed paperwork to the guidance office.  We are sorry for any inconvenience this change may have caused.

> cirlce the name of the scholarship

> return  to guidance

> guidance will assemble a packet of selected scholarship applications (student packet)

> student packets will be ready at the end of February or early March

> if a student needs a scholarship application that has a deadline of January or February – please ask guidance for a copy right away

> STUDENTS WILL BE CALLED DOWN TO PICK UP THEIR PACKET AS SOON AS THEY ARE READY.

Dear Parents/Guardians

Senior year is flying by and there is much to be accomplished.  Some of the seniors have already applied to colleges for early decision.  For those who will be applying for regular deadlines, here are some guidelines to help them follow:

When seniors ask for a recommendation letter from someone – they should give the person writing the letter an information sheet about themselves – copy is available from me in guidance.  The person they ask to write the letter should be given ample time to get it done.

To have an official transcript sent to a college – students should fill out a request form with Mrs. Skrocki in guidance and she will mail it out – student just needs to provide the name of the college; she will do the rest.

If a student is receiving a free or reduced lunch, they are eligible for a fee waiver for both SAT testing and college application – see me in guidance.

Talk to your student regularly about keeping their grades up – senioritis can affect anyone – remember, they don’t have the summer to make-up any failing grades this year.

After January 1st – scholarships on the McCann website can be submitted.  After you submit them, they get emailed to guidance, then we pull all the hard copies and assemble a packet for the student.  We will notify the student when the packet is ready to be picked up.

I urge anyone who has a student going off to college to attend Financial Aid Night.  The presenters are people who are experts on this topic – you will leave with alot of helpful information.  Beyond that there will be designated nights for helping parents/guardians get through the process.

www.collegeboard.org is “one-stop shopping” – everything you need to know about college or anything affiliated with it is on there.

Next SATs:      January 28, 2012 – deadline to register if December 30, 2011

March 10, 2012 – deadline to register is February10, 2012

I keep a tracking sheet for all of the seniors to help follow along with their future plans -  I will be meeting with all of them again individually after the holidays.

Please feel free to contact me for anything – it’s often hectic in guidance – if I don’t get back to you right away please send me a reminder!   Remember to use X2 and contact teachers directly with any questions about their grades – email addresses are on the website.
