Mohawk 5, McCann Tech 0 — Senior Emma Poplawski scored three times, and visiting Mohawk Trail Regional High School opened its season in fine fashion Monday.
The Warriors began their 2017 campaign with a 5-0 shutout over McCann Technical School in a Pioneer South girls’ soccer game in North Adams.
“I’m so proud of the girls with the way they started the season,” lauded Mohawk coach Steve Tomi of the victory.
Poplawski scored twice in the first half to stake the Warriors (1-0, 1-0) to a 2-0 halftime advantage. She put her third goal in midway through the second half, while Mary Monohon and Mae Rice-Lesure also tallied. Sage Spitzer, Haley Rode and Lily Wickland Shearer recorded assists in the victory for Mohawk, which received 10 saves in net from goalkeeper Lilly Seaver to snag the shutout.
Mohawk travels to Northfield Wednesday night for what should be a good Pioneer South contest against Pioneer at 6 p.m.
