Business Technology (BT) prepares students for a wide range of business and office career paths by combining the business, computer, and office technology fields into one course of study.  Students graduating from Business Technology are ready to enter different sectors of the business world with very marketable skills.  Through the four year program, students gain a thorough knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, and desktop publishing applications.  In addition, students explore related business topics such as marketing, business management, customer service, entrepreneurship, communications, accounting, and finance.  BT students leave ready to be effective team members in a business organization or develop their skills further in college.

CERTIFICATIONS AND AFFILIATIONS

Students completing the OT program are eligible to receive the following certifications:

  1. Microsoft Office Specialist certifications in Word, Word Expert, Excel, Excel Expert, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook
  2. Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3)
  3. SkillsUSA Work Force Ready System certification in Customer Service, Employability
  4. The U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) General Industry Safety and Health certification.

The Office Technology program is affiliated with the following professional organizations:

  1. Business Professionals of America

CURRICULUM FRAMEWORKS

The OT program adheres to the State Vocational Standards set forth by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.  The standards are met by following the McCann Business Technology Curriculum

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Paths for students completing the Business Technology program include careers in fields such as administration, management, medical, legal, education, entertainment, entrepreneurship, sports management, corporate, computer administration management, finance, marketing, and technology.

With completion of the Business Technology program and further education students can pursue careers in accounting and finance, business administration, business management, and business marketing.
