600 Hour Journeyman Electrician Course
600 Hour Journeyman Electrician Course
The Massachusetts Board of State Examiners of Electrician of the Division of Professional Licensure of the Commonwealth has approved McCann Technical School as a provider for the 600 hour electrical journeyman program.
This program is 600 hours of classroom instruction for electrical apprentices pursuing a career towards obtaining their journeyman's electrical license. It prepares and meets the requirements for the students to be eligible to take their Massachusetts Journeyman State Exam. Students will take 2 modules per school year - no classes are offered in the summer.
According to the Massachusetts State Board of Electrical Examiners, before an individual can be eligible to register for the electrical licensing exam, the individual must complete the following, both of which are approximately four years:
- 8,000 hours of employment as an apprentice under the direct supervision of a MA Class B Journeyman license
- 600 hours of classroom instruction in electrical code and theory from an approved school based on the current National Electrical Code
Modules 1, 3, 5 & 7 Fall Calendar
Modules are 75 hours. Module enrollment is determined by the regulations of the Board of State Examiners of Electricians of the Division of Professional Licensure of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, www.mass.gov/ocabr/licensee/dpl-boards/el/.
Fall 2023 Offerings:
- Module 1 - Safety (basic, electrical, hand tools, power tools, rigging, OSHA, code) and basic theory, trade math, Ohm's law, DC theory, DC circuits, basic electrical terminology, intro to electrical materials, intro to electrical conductors
- Module 3 - AC fundamentals (branch circuits, feeders, services, introduction to motors, contactors/relays, lighting) and Over Current Protection (breakers, fuses, sizes, temperature rating, ambient temperature)
- Module 5 - Devices, raceways, and boxes (types, sizes, fill requirements), Distribution Equipment (services, types, sizing and calculations) and Transformers (theory, sizing, types, locations)
- Module 7 - Load Calculations (services, feeders, buildings, tables and examples) and Low Voltage Systems (lighting, security, fire alarm, sound, optical fiber cable, communications {voice, data, video})

Module tuition (Including Mike Holt Study Books Digital Modules) - $625
One-time OSHA Fee (optional upon request - offered in module 1 only) - $35
- All payments must be paid in full before the start of class - no payment plans are accepted
- Cash or check only - no credit card transactions are authorized
- Checks should be made out to McCann Technical School

Refund Policy
McCann 600 hour electrical journeyman program adheres to the following refund policy:
- Non-attendance alone does not qualify a student for a refund. Students must initiate, in writing, a withdrawal from the program
- Refunds are based on the student's official withdrawal as determined by the superintendent's office
- Full tuition refunds are granted for any program cancelled by McCann
- A full tuition refund is given before the first day of class, 75% tuition is given for class days 1-6, 50% for class days 7-10, and no tuition refund after 10 class days.
- Refunds are processed after the end of the refund period. Refund checks are mailed to the student's home address on file in the superintendent’s office.
- No refunds for books.

15 Hour Electrical Code Update
The Massachusetts Board of State Examiners of Electrician of the Division of Professional Licensure of the Commonwealth has approved McCann Technical School as a provider of the 15 hour electrical code update class and we have similarly been approved by the states of Maine New Hampshire, and Vermont. We have also been approved to offer the 6 hour electrical calculations continuing education course.
We currently do not have any 15 hour code update classes scheduled. Please check back in the fall of 2023 for more offerings
