At McCann Technical High School, there is one full time DESE certified Registered Nurse. The school nurse is available in the building from 7:45 AM - 3:00 PM Monday through Friday. The school nurse’s goal is to provide social-emotional and physical support to each student on an individual basis to help them stay focused and healthy in the classroom and at home. With the collaboration of parents/guardians, teachers and the school physician, this goal is achievable.

Physical and Immunization Requirement For School Entry

Illness Prevention

Please be mindful to keep your child at home if they are feeling ill.  Illness can interrupt a student's ability in the classroom.  It can also cause the spread of illness throughout the school.  If your child is going to be absent due to sickness, please notify the school nurse.

Concussion

Concussions are a common injury in children.  A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or by a hit to the body that causes the head and brain to move rapidly back and forth.  They are most likely to occur during sports related events.  Concussions can greatly affect a student's ability to learn in the classroom.  If you think your child has a concussion, please contact your child's physician immediately.

Medication Administration in School

Whenever possible, prescription medications should be administered at home.  However, medications that have to be administered during the school day or as needed medications (i.e. inhalers, epi pens) will need the following to be in compliance with 105 CMR 210.00
